Evelyn Elizabeth Schultz

Evelyn Elizabeth Schultz, our precious Mom, Nana, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Bullard, TX on April 17, 2024.

Evelyn was born June 30, 1945, in Dallas, the only child of Preston and Juanita Stafford. Her favorite childhood memories were the road trips she took with her parents to see the United States. She was a Dallas Cowboys fan from the moment the team was founded. Although she was never a student at Texas A & M, she loved the Aggie state of mind, and her favorite color was maroon. She was a fan of classic movies, especially Gone with the Wind, Giant, Star Wars, and Superman.

Evie graduated from Kimball High School in Dallas class of ’63, then attended East Texas State University in Commerce. There in a Spanish class, she met the man of her dreams. The professor assigned partners for a project by going down the class roster alphabetically. A student named George Schultz was paired up with Evelyn Stafford. They married in 1966 and remained so for 55 years until George’s death in 2021.

Evie left ETSU, but many years later she returned to college at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in library science in 1989. In between her college stints, she was busy raising 5 daughters and supporting her husband in his career. There were countless times in family life that Evie quietly made sacrifices so that George and their girls could be happy and succeed.

In the late ‘90s, Evie was the librarian at the Bullard Public Library for a spell. She loved books and was an avid reader. Her favorite genres were history and biography/autobiography. She could tell you everything you wanted to know about the Kennedys, the Civil War, and the British royal family. Additionally, she spent much of her adult life doing genealogical research for both the Stafford and Schultz families.

Evelyn was a lady of unwavering faith. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved singing church hymns and reading scripture. She served as church librarian for many years. She tended to the needs of several elderly congregants over the years. Evie had many friends through church and was much admired and beloved.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, daughter Cindy Bennett, infant grandson Nathan Bennett, and son-in-law Jon Hallman.

Left to treasure Evelyn’s legacy are daughters Pamela Kinchen, Iris Schultz, and Sharon Schultz, all of Bullard; daughter Esther Munn and husband Todd of Laneville; son-in-law Jeramie Bennett of Tyler; and six beautiful grandchildren: Miranda, Amber, and Jacob Bennett of Tyler; Taylor Durrenberger of Nacogdoches; and Elizabeth and Dillon Munn of Laneville.

Serving as pallbearers are Jeramie Bennett, Jacob Bennett, Taylor Durrenberger, Jerry Durrenberger, Jeff Durrenberger, Anthony Carrig, Michael Ireland, and Rick Graff. Honorary pallbearers are Evelyn’s cousins Bruce Cook and Rusty Cook.

Funeral will take place on Saturday, April 27, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 23000 County Rd 145 (Robert Walker Rd), Bullard, TX 75757. Viewing will take place from 9:00-9:30 am. The service will begin at 10:00 am.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Retreat Cemetery, near the intersection of Pleasant Retreat Rd and Hill N Dale Rd, Tyler, TX 75709.

The family would like to express gratitude to Fresenius Kidney Care Centers in Jacksonville, TX and in Tyler for Evelyn’s dialysis care for the last 15+ years. Also many thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice for making it possible for her to pass away with dignity and in comfort.

Floral tributes may be sent to Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Bullard, TX.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
