Alan Eugene Chapman, 85, died peacefully in The Hospice of East Texas on May 28, 2026. He was born on June 3, 1940, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He was the son of Hubert and Laurabel Chapman of El Paso, Texas.
He served in the United States Navy for a total of 4 years, then proceeded to be in the reserves for an additional 2. After being honorably discharged as a Petty Officer 3rd Class, he went on to attend college at the University of Texas at El Paso, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Business Administration. Throughout his studies Alan began work at the Federal Aviation Administrator as an air traffic controller and trainer and continued doing so for nearly 35 years until finally retiring.
After retiring Alan enjoyed traveling the world, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying a life of relaxation watching any and all sports, especially the Houston Astros and Houston Texans.
Alan was proceeded in death by his parents, Hubert and Laurabel Chapman; his sister Sue Carrigan; brother-in-law Mike Carrigan; and his loving wife of nearly 50 years Sandra Chapman.
Alan was survived by his daughter Laura Hellenguard and son-in-law Eddie “JR” Hellenguard Jr. His five grand-children Robert Wooldridge, Corban Wooldridge, Dalton Fails, Rebecca “Ash” Whiteley, and husband Dakoda Whiteley. Along with his three great grandsons Carl Wooldridge, Asher Wooldridge, and Atlas Hellenguard. As well as his niece Whitney Rigsby.
Services will be held at Houston National Cemetery at a later time.
