Donald Earl Durham Jr. was born on July 25, 1942, in Texarkana, Texas, to Donald DurhamSr. and Dorothy Durham.
Don passed away peacefully at Brookdale South Memory Care.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to those who lovingly cared for him at BrookdaleSouth and Heart to Heart Hospice.
It was no surprise that Don followed his loving and devoted wife, Norma Lou, to heaven onJune 8, 2026.
They had been together for 63 years. Together, they built a life centered onfaith, always putting God first and raising their children in a Christian home.
They affectionately referred to one another as “Sweetheart” and “Best Friend,” a reflection oftheir enduring love and partnership.
Don is survived by his children, Tammy Durham Hughes (John) and Michael Shane Durham(Tracy); and his cherished grandchildren: Chad Hughes (Lindsey), Michelle Hughes, WyattDurham (Hailey), T.J. Hughes (Katherine), Andy Durham (Caroline), Lauren HughesFotheringham (Michael), and Hallie Parrish.
Don was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren: Makenzie Newell, Mason Hughes,Jackson Ikey, Lincoln Fotheringham, Grayson Hughes, Carson Hughes, BeckhamFotheringham, Logan Hughes, Luna Durham, Nova Durham, Kaden Hughes, Kya Durham,Kohen Wolaver, Presley Hughes, and Penelope Durham, with one more greatgranddaughter on the way.
Don grew up in Texarkana, Texas. He played baseball and football in high school andgraduated from Texas High School.
He pursued a college education in business at theUniversity of North Texas, where he met Norma, and later attended Southern MethodistUniversity.Don began his banking career in the mailroom at Republic National Bank. Through hardwork and dedication, he advanced to become Vice President of the Trust Department.
He later retired from Bank of America in Tyler, Texas.Don and Norma spent many happy years enjoying life together, especially traveling oncruises and spending each November at their favorite condominium in Destin.
They were active members of West Erwin Church of Christ and Shiloh Road Church ofChrist in Tyler, where faith and fellowship were central to their lives. Don faithfully servedas both a deacon and an elder at multiple congregations throughout his lifetime until Norma’shealth declined.
He then devoted himself to caring for her, setting aside his passions for tennisand golf so he could be by her side.
