Frank Wesley McCoy - dedicated husband, father, “papaw”, friend, and lover of all things ice cream- peacefully passed away on October 20, 2022 at 11:46 pm. He spent three restful days at The Hospice of East Texas Homeplace where he would breathe his last breath.
Frank was born in Tyler, Texas on July 16th, 1951 to James and Gloria McCoy. Frank has three brothers: Kenny, Cliff and Lee. He was preceded in death by Fayette McCoy, a sister. He was the oldest and felt like “leader of the pack”.
He attended John Tyler high school and then went on to attend Tyler Junior College. He spent his life working in the meat industry. He loved his job at Greenberg Smoked Turkeys. He felt like they were family. He also had his own business, McCoys HACCP Consulting. He enjoyed traveling and working for clients around the state. He made many lifelong friends along the way.
Frank met the love of his life, Tammy McCoy, in Tyler and they were married several years later in November of 1998. They were matched by a mutual friend, who could never be thanked enough. He loved her with his whole heart. He was a devoted husband who loved to make up songs to sing to her. The family was lucky enough to get some of his songs on video prior to his passing.
He is survived by his four children: Frank McCoy Jr and spouse Delaina, Charla Davis and spouse Jeff, Bradley McCoy and spouse Kayla, and Joshua Renfrow and spouse Ronnie. Charla and Brad would argue to the very end on who was the “favorite”. It would become a family joke. Before his passing, amidst his confusion, he would state that they “would arrive at the same time” (meaning that they would always be equal). He taught his children many life lessons and they were able to thank him before he passed. His children loved playing practical jokes on him and they always knew it was time to stop when he would start laughing.
As much as he loved his children, the greatest joy to Frank was being a papaw. Being a papaw came naturally to him. He could never leave them without saying “save my hugs and kisses”. He was proud to have fourteen grandchildren. Kelby, Bailey, Blaine, Blair, Chandler, Rylan, Trey, Jett, Tripp, Jaylyn, Payton, Lincoln, Palmer and Dylan. His life and legacy will live on through these kids.
Frank had a larger than life presence. He was the kind of person that never met a stranger. He loved people and people couldn’t help but love him back. He was one of those people that you could call if you needed a hand. He was willing to help anyone and would give you the shirt off of his back if needed. His loss will be felt by so many. His family is in the process of planning a memorial suited to his final wishes. In lieu of flowers or food, you may send monetary contributions to the family that will go toward the cost of a memorial plaque. This memorial plaque will be placed in the Celebration Courtyard at The Hospice of East Texas.
