Keith George Hannan

Keith George Hannan, 88, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024, in Tyler, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of Gladys (Johnston) and Thomas Hannan. He was accomplished in multiple sports and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army for two years as a medic stationed in Germany then attended college and played golf for the University of Southern Mississippi. He transferred to California to pursue his career and graduated from San Jose State College with a BA degree in business.

Keith was married to Margaret (Peggy) Keene in 1962 and lived in San Jose where he gleaned knowledge as a PGA Apprentice at several local golf courses, eventually moving back to his origins as the head professional at Mason City Country Club in Iowa. In 1983 he resigned to build and establish The North Iowa Golf Center, furthering his reputation throughout the Midwest as an accomplished instructor and custom club builder, and in 1991 he earned the honorable title of PGA Master Professional for excellence in golf instruction. He retired to Beaufort, South Carolina in 1996 where he continued to enjoy golf, and serve actively at St. Helena’s Episcopal Church.  

After Peggy passed away in 2003, he renewed a past friendship from Mason City, Iowa and married Shari McManigal in 2005, eventually moving to Tyler, Texas in 2009 where they continued their love for life, community and each other over a wonderful 19 years. Keith continued to actively play golf into his 80’s and volunteered with The First Tee of Greater Tyler to teach and enable kids of all ages. His additional pastimes included live sports, reading, travel, woodworking and adoring his growing family.

Keith was predeceased by his parents Gladys and Thomas, a brother Loren, and his wife Peggy.  He is survived by two sisters, Shirley and Jean, two sons, Patrick and wife Penny, Benjamin and wife Jill, five grandchildren, Sam, Jordan, Meg, Tyler and Max, and a great grandchild Eloise, his dedicated and loving wife Sharidon (Shari) and with their love and affection Shari’s three children and their extended families.

Family visitation begins in the Garden Room at Marvin Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas on January 14, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Keith’s name to The Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 S.E. 1st St., Suite 800, Miami, Florida, 33131.
