Martha was born on May 27, 1938 in Hamilton, TX to Lucile & Tilmon Adcock. She passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026 at the age of 88.

She married Bill Ross in March 1958, and they remained married until his death in 1988. Together they had one daughter, Beverly.

Martha was a dedicated public servant who spent her entire 36-year career working for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

During that career she earned the respect of everyone she worked with, and many of her closest friendships were forged from those working relationships.

Martha loved animals and was known as the “cat whisperer” in some circles. She rescued many dogs and cats in her lifetime and supported a large feral cat colony on her property in Leander, TX.

She continued to support that colony by sending food after she moved to Palestine, TX to be near her daughter and son-in-law.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as her brothers Bill Adcock and Jerry Adcock and his wife, Wanda, and her most beloved dog, Mary Lou.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Smith and husband, David (the “world’s best son-in-law”); her beloved sister-in-law, Frances Adcock; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Martha will be remembered for her generosity and the kindness she showed everyone throughout her life. She was a woman of God and showed her love for Him through her actions and the example she set.
