Sherion Sue "Ivy" Strickland, 76, of Tyler passed away peacefully on November 23, 2022. Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, November 28th at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Momma, the youngest of five children, was born August 15, 1946 at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas, to the late Clarence and Ellie Ivy.  She grew up in the Walnut Grove Community and attended school in Whitehouse for all 12 years, graduating in 1964.  After graduation, she worked at Lion's Shoe Store, where she met her forever soulmate Gene.  They were married August 4th, 1966 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, and  recently celebrated 56 years of marriage, and they had three children.  Later in life, she worked at Sledges Manufacturing Company, Levi Strauss, Tyler Morning Telegraph, and Security Couriers, from where she retired in the mid 90's.

Besides playing basketball for Whitehouse High School, some of the hobbies over the years were playing softball, square dancing, bowling in various bowling leagues, playing bingo in various community centers, and watching her kids and grandkids play sports.  At various times she enjoyed painting ceramics and quilting.

Sherion is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Ellie Ivy, her brother Maurice Ivy, her sisters Elva Green and Ruby Lamb, and their spouses Loutokah Ivy, Homer Green, Bill Lamb, and the husband of her surviving sister, Leo Holt.

She is survived by her sister Freeda Holt of Whitehouse, her husband Gene Strickland of Tyler, their two sons Shannon Strickland of Bullard and  Micah Strickland of Pasadena, their daughter Debi and husband Charles Wood of Troup.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Adam Wood of Troup, SGT Robert Justin Wood and wife Nina of Shreveport, and great-grandson Remington Wood.
